Cleanroom Basics

A cleanroom is a special environment supplied with HEPA (high efficiency particulate absorption) or ULPA (ultra-low particulate air) filtered air, designed to meet the cleanliness class requirements of the manufacturing or testing process. It can be built as a single room or divided into as many individual rooms as required, and it depends on operating protocols, cleaning and maintenance to function as designed. Learn more >>

ISO 14644-1 classifies cleanrooms by the number of particles 0.5 µm and larger per cubic meter of air. The scale runs from ISO Class 3 (equivalent to the former Federal Standard 209E Class 1) through ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000). For example, ISO Class 5 allows 3,520 particles of 0.5 µm or larger per cubic meter, equivalent to 100 particles per cubic foot (Class 100). Learn more >>

The gowning area, or ante room, is where personnel put on the specified cleanroom garment — ranging from a smock, bouffant, face mask, gloves and shoe covers up to a full bunny suit, hood and booties, depending on the process requirements. It is pressurized relative to the outside area, and its cleanliness level is generally lower than the other cleanroom areas.

A negative flow room uses negative air pressure to keep any possible contamination from escaping the cleanroom. Windows and doors are completely sealed and internal air is exhausted to ambient (outside the facility) through filters or scrubbers. Air outside the cleanroom tends to flow into the negative pressure room rather than out of it.

Filtration

Both are the filtered air supplied to a cleanroom. HEPA stands for high efficiency particulate absorption, and ULPA stands for ultra-low particulate air. The filtration type is selected to meet the cleanliness class the manufacturing or testing process requires. HEPA filters to 0.3 microns at an efficiency of 99.975%; ULPA filters to 0.12 microns at an efficiency of 99.999%. Learn more >>

Cleanroom Types

The CZT I hardwall cleanroom is designed to your specific configuration and cleanliness requirements, ranging from ISO Class 4 (Class 10) with upgrades such as raised floor, ULPA filters and flush mounted window and door frames, up to ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000) for basic cleanliness requirements. Wall panels are press fitted into an aluminum or steel stud to form an airtight seal that provides temperature, humidity and particulate control. The standard fire and sound panel starts with a smooth outer skin of conductive aluminum, painted steel, fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) or smooth vinyl attached to half-inch gypsum board, then a layer of polystyrene, a second half-inch gypsum board, and a finishing outer skin. Standard colors are white, champagne and grey, with optional specialized colors available.

The standard system accommodates wall heights up to 16 feet, and the standard 3-inch-thick wall system offers load-bearing capabilities. Requirements for wall heights above 20 feet can be met with wall systems 4 inches to 6 inches thick.

The softwall cleanroom is totally freestanding or it can be used in combination with your existing walls and ceiling. It is our experience that the CZT III will be moved from one product line to another as required. Modularity is also enhanced with the addition of locking casters.

The CZT III softwall cleanroom comes in varying heights up to 16 feet and beyond. We have successfully divided areas with curtains as tall as 30 feet.

Yes, the CZT III softwall cleanroom can be equipped with an internal or external gowning room, depending on your layout requirements.

Yes. The non-progressive design makes it quick and easy to expand, modify or move finished cleanrooms. The structure can be added onto as required and can be disassembled and moved with you.

Installation

Installation time depends on the cleanroom type. Softwall cleanrooms (CZT III) are generally installed in a matter of days, while structural hardwall cleanrooms (CZT I and CZT IV) typically take two to three weeks. Our dedicated installation team manages the full process, from delivery and erection through cleanroom start-up and certification.
